Houston Chronicle: A Houston man's quest for the perfect shower device led to marketing of the Down Under Wonder®Shower, available through The Extremely Large Plumbing Co®.

As a sound engineer who travels around the world with rock bands, Houston resident Kevin Holman has seen the insides of thousands of hotels.

As a result, he has also seen the insides of thousands of showers.

But it only took one shower in Australia to get Holman started in the plumbing business.

"I know a lot of people base the quality of a hotel on the satisfaction of their stay," Holman said. "They question if it is like home and the shower is an important thing.

"I've taken Acupuncture showers where the shower feels like one piece of water and it stings while you're getting wet," he said. "I've also taken a Lawsuit shower, which is a shower that alternates between scalding and freezing water. And you're in so much pain, you are ready to walk downstairs and complain that you'd sue the management."

Holman said he found the ideal shower device 10 years ago during one stay at a hotel in Australia. After a visit to a local plumbing company, Holman found the shower head that created the shower he loved. He purchased several of the heads and installed them in his Houston home.

In 1992, he opened The Extremely Large Plumbing Co®, a business that sells the Down Under Wonder®Shower head and extension arm.

"The shower head is a very simplistic design and reminds me of an old-time flower watering pot," he said. "It's maintenance-free and it s great for a tall person, which is why I liked it."

Standing more than 6 feet tall, Holman liked the shower head's adjustable extension arm that could better fit his height.

"It's from above and it certainly covers you," he said. "I can put the thing above me and it covers my head and shoulders - it gives very thorough cleaning."

"They said that it's great for short people too," he said. "You can saving it aside and it goes higher or lower.

"It's also great for handicapped people because you can bring it down to a sitting position - it's fully, adjustable."

The Down UnderWonder®Shower is available in chrome, 23-karat gold, brass and assorted colors.

The extension arm is available separately and can be used with different shower heads.
